Mercury Air Group, Inc. was founded in 1956 by three members of the legendary First American Volunteer Group (AVG) Flying Tigers Thomas C. Haywood, Robert P. Duke Hedman and Robert J. Catfish Raine. In all the history of aerial combat, there has never been such a total air victory as that of the Flying Tigers during World War II. Based in Los Angeles, Mercury Air Group is a global leader in the aviation services industry and is one of the largest privately owned aviation services company in the world with business operations on five continents in more than 60 locations. Mercury Air Group's Chairman and CEO is Joseph A. Czyzyk. Following a career with El AI Airlines, Mr. Czyzyk joined Mercury in 1984 and founded the company's cargo division. In 1994, he was appointed to Mercury�s Board of Directors and named Chief Operating Officer and in 1999 he became President and Chief Executive Officer. In 2004, he was named Chairman of the Board and in 2006, Mr. Czyzyk privatized the company after three decades on the American Stock Exchange. In addition to leading Mercury, Mr. Czyzyk has served as the President of the City of Los Angeles Board of Taxicab Commissioners, overseeing the taxicab industry in the nation's second largest city. He currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors and Vice-Chairman of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Czyzyk is a decorated U.S. Veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy�s Seabees in Vietnam. He and his wife reside in Los Angeles. Mr. Czyzyk is a graduate of California State University at Los Angeles.
